Drug Defaults
The formulary enables you to add both dosage and prescribed quantity defaults to drugs.
Dose and quantity defaults can also be added to products via Tags – doses and quantities set at this level must be indication specific, for example, a dose for UTI over 3 days associated with the relevant UTI tag.
An item may have multiple practice default doses associated with it, which are separated by age/sex range.
Default information can be added from the Gemscript defaults or recorded manually.
- From the Formulary double click on the drug you wish to set the defaults for.
The dosage screen displays.The top right corner includes a link to Drug Information, see - Drug Information.
- The dosage details need to be associated with an Age/Sex range.
- Select Age/sex ranges +.
The Add Age/sex range pop-up displays. - Use the drop-down menu to choose either.
- All
- Between
For example, 16y and 65y. - Over
- Under
For example, under 3y.
- Enter the age in the format, XXy for years or XXm for months.
- Select the Sex.
- All
- Male
- Female
- Select OK to save the Age/Sex settings.
The view refreshes with the Age/Sex information, the drug class populates and Add Gemscript defaults activates.
- Select Age/sex ranges +.
- To populate with the Gemscript defaults, select Add Gemscript defaults.If the defaults exist, these automatically populate.
- To enter the defaults manually:
- Enter the Dosage, for example, 1 three times daily.Note - Dosage codes are not converted.
- Enter the Quantity.
If available the pack sizes and costs display to the right. - Optionally, enter any Notes to patient.
- If required, enter the Dosage Duration.
- Enter the Dosage, for example, 1 three times daily.
- Select Save to finish.
Dosage Information
As a drug may have several dosage protocols, the details shown may change depending on how it is being viewed.
- If a drug is accessed via its tag, then the tag default dosage displays.
- If a drug is accessed via a direct search, then the practice default dosage displays.
- If there is no practice default dosage, the drug dictionary default dosage displays if there is one.
